Description & Learning objectives

This course will look at types of trauma and how they impact young people and their carers. The course will explore ways children and young people can be empowered and assisted to achieve the best outcomes. 

Using various forms of interactive engagement and group work, this course will assist carers in recognising signs and symptoms of trauma, both in themselves and in young people and give them a toolkit to work to reduce or eliminate its impact.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:
 
  • To understand what trauma is
  • To consider what trauma looks like
  • To appreciate complex trauma and its impact on children and young people
  • To discuss the most beneficial ways to work with trauma
  • To look at the impact of secondary trauma on carers and others

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
