Description & Learning objectives

This course provides a clear and practical introduction to abuse related to beliefs in witchcraft. It is designed to help professionals recognise this form of harm, understand how it affects children and young people, and respond in ways that prioritise safety, dignity, and emotional wellbeing. The course builds knowledge step by step, using plain English and real-world practice examples, and supports learners to apply what they learn confidently in their day-to-day roles.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand what abuse related to beliefs in witchcraft is and how it can affect children and young people emotionally, physically, and psychologically.
  • Recognise common signs, indicators, and risk factors that may suggest a child is experiencing or is at risk of this form of abuse.
  • Apply trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approaches when working with children, families, and carers where such beliefs may be present.
  • Identify how beliefs, fear, and blame can influence behaviour, attachment, and relationships, and how these may present in care settings.
  • Respond appropriately to concerns, disclosures, or suspicions, using safeguarding-focused actions that place the child’s safety and wellbeing first.

This course is CPD accredited and adheres to the training, support and development standards outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
It is also tailored to where you live in the UK, adhering to each country’s own individual regulators – namely: Ofsted, The Care Inspectorate (Wales), The Care Inspectorate (Scotland), and The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (Northern Ireland).
